Odds and Ends: Amanda Beard Playboy pics

Well, folks, that certainly didn’t take much time for someone to leak the scans of the photos of Amanda Beard’s playboy spread onto the internet. They are fairly decent but more of an artsy Herb Ritts kind of photos (which is probably what she is going for) than actual, man that’s sexy type photo shoot. There’s no denying that she’s very hot but she wouldn’t be “Playboy material” if she wasn’t a famous olympic swimmer. Oh, and by the way, this is the first time real breasts have appeared in Playboy since 1976.

There’s one PSFW pic after the jump. But for now, here’s your other news… (as if you care)

[Washington Post]: That reality racing show with celebs sucks

[MLB]: Win a date…er.. meeting with Alyssa Milano

[The Sporting Orange]: Chad Johnson is a centaur

[SI]: Former ASU RB Loren Wade convicted of second-degree murder

Odds and Ends: Amanda Beard on Letterman

The Amanda Beard publicity blitz is in full swing with her appearance on Letterman last night. I can’t tell whether it’s the quality of Youtube or she isn’t looking that great but… she isn’t looking that great. Flash Warner claims that it’s because “you can’t airbrush TV.” Ouch. Anyway, decide for yourself. She’s relatively funny and didn’t do anything to make us hate her or anything. Her publicist is probably angry at her for mentioning the boyfriend though. Men like their illusions.

In other news…

[India eNews]: Pretty soon the Tour de France won’t have any champions because of doping

[SA.com]: Spurs will give away free T-shirts to all fans at the game tonight. Wonder why no one has come up with this before.

[Sports By Brooks]: What’s the point of this Fast Cars and Superstars thing if they don’t race each other?

Odds and Ends: Amanda Beard Playboy cover

The fine folks at Playboy were nice enough to send us this pic of Amanda Beard’s Playboy cover. The cover is standard stuff, nothing too provocative or over the top but you can still see that killer body, even with a strategically placed forearm over the goodies. The blogosphere is going to be exploding with the actual scans of her nude shots soon but we’ll probably just point you in the right direction instead of posting them.

Anyway, if you’re in the NYC area next week, Amanda Beard will be signing her July issue from noon to 2:00 at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square. We’ll try to get some candid shots from that event as well.

In other news…

[Rocky Mountain News]: The Braves manager who went apeshit got himself a 3 game suspension.

[CNBC]: Nike re-signs Kobe to a multi-year extension

[Cincinnati.com]: Sheffield’s words just plain racist

[SBS]: Why the UFL will fail

[Larry Brown Sports]: Hmmm… the London Olympics logo does look like two people having sex

[Randball]: How would a riot caused by 10-cent-beer night in 1974 be covered today?

And finally, we really can’t make heads or tails of this post but you can’t deny the sheer entertainment value of two blogs titled “Arcade Fire Stole my Basketball” and “Arcade Fire Didn’t Steal Dude’s Basketball“.

Pros vs. Joes finally got interesting

Some sports fans have way too much free time on their hands, but we’re not complaining. After all, if it wasn’t for those losers then we wouldn’t be able to bring you hilarious clips like this. Today’s video of the day comes from Yardbarker who put together this awesome dream match-up between some of sports greatest athletes and your favorite animated real American heroes. That’s right; it’s “Pros Vs. G.I. Joes.”

Wonder no more what would happen if Gung-Ho tried to score a TD against Troy Polamalu or if Tracker can beat Ron Artest in a game of 21 because now we know. And knowing is half the battle.

Personally, we can’t get enough of that wacky Manny Ramirez! For some reason, Man-Ram going to bat in a Santa suit doesn’t seem all that farfetched.

Odds and Ends: Should bloggers get Press Credentials?

Eric Mcerlain over at Off Wing Opinion posted a link to Sports Media Journal’s poll asking whether sports bloggers should get media credentials. There are only 51 votes as of this writing but almost 2/3 of the respondents say no. And I have to agree with them. A few bloggers, like Eric, absolutely know their stuff. We’ve had Eric on a few podcasts and his knowledge of hockey and the NHL is extraordinary. Giving him a press pass enhances his writing.

However, the majority of bloggers are goddamn useless and add absolutely nothing to sports “reporting.” Hell, why do you need a press pass to post a blog entry on which player in the starting lineup compares to the cast of the Partridge Family? Bill Simmons doesn’t need a press pass and the majority of bloggers are cheap imitations of the Sports Guy. (Even the Sports Guy has become a cheap imitation of the Sports Guy.) You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve clicked on a link, read the blog entry, and thought, “are you f’ing kidding me? Did I just waste time reading that shit?”

No, bloggers do not need press credentials. The good ones come up with important topics and opinions with or without access. The bad ones will always suck the life out of this game, whether or not they have access to the free buffet. And for the record, we don’t have press credentials.

In other news…

[Cincinnati.com]: Bengals release LB Nicholson after arrest on a domestic violence charge

[Idaho Statesman]: Another story for the ‘Hockey players are the toughest athletes’ file

[Canada.com]: The worst logos in hockey

[TrojanWire]: Well, at least we know Steve Nash doesn’t get his chest waxed

Hey, sports dude! You might wanna check your shorts

This clip of Bob Kaser and Larry Figurski talking randomly without knowing they were on the air has been getting some love today in the blogosphere. When we first saw it, all we could think was “how embarrassing!” Those guys spent a good 30 seconds yapping away along with periods of staring blanking into the camera before they realized what idiots they had been. But then we got turned on to this clip of some sports anchor that got the giggles after ripping a huge fart on air! That’s when we realized that 30 seconds of nothing isn’t nearly as embarrassing as a two second stinker before the Seminoles’ package.

The actual toot steals the segment but we love the way the news anchor responds when the gassy sports guy throws it back over:

Put on your dancin’ shoes! We still have a lot more to go. The delight of it all.
