Peyton Manning on Saturday Night Live

Following in the footsteps of Tom Brady, (isn’t he always following Tom Brady?  Well, except for that supermodels thing…) Peyton Manning will host Saturday Night Live on March 24.

At first we weren’t so sure about this since Peyton seems like a stiff, but he has done 6,000 commercials and his appearance on David Letterman after the Super Bowl was pretty funny and not cringe inducing even once so maybe he’ll do a good job.  But there’s a big difference between scripted commercials and scripted live comedy as big as SNL.

We wonder if Eli will make a special guest appearance as the fuckup brother.

Here’s Tom Brady’s best sketch from SNL and even he looks a little awkward at times trying not to look at the camera.

Odds and Ends: The state of the NHL

We’ve been neglecting hockey lately but since so much has been made of the ratings of the NHL All-Star game, we thought we’d point you over to two blog entries. First, let’s blame Gary Bettman. Second, perhaps all this angst over the state of the NHL and specifically over the Versus ratings are overblown. However, the big difference between college basketball and the NHL is that the college basketball postseason is a must watch event and the NHL postseason is a “is it on?” event. Finally, we have a sign from a female fan that needs to go into the Fan Sign Hall of Fame.

In other news…

[The Offside]: Fireball soccer? Maybe hockey would be more popular if we dipped the puck in gasoline first.

[Awful Announcing]: Wait, why do black people get two Thanksgivings?

[Can’t Stop the Bleeding]: High School wrestling will never be the same in Minnesota

[Yahoo]: Next time you think NFL players are paid too much

[The Hater Nation]: The best Barbaro story picture

[The 700 Level]: How is it that Freddie Mitchell still in the blogosphere?

And finally…. why white people shouldn’t rap: “take a big dump on the bears”? This type of thing happens every year. Remember when some urologist decided to battle TO? People… please… just stop.

Hines Ward talks trash about Peyton

In an unprovoked attack, Hines Ward decided to talk a little trash about Peyton Manning.

This is fun. I love the treatment. When you can walk in and see all the players from other teams, there’s nothing they can say to you. You’re on top that whole offseason. I’ve been all over, to L.A., to Vegas, to Miami and seen all the players from all over. Hey, Peyton Manning, I know you’re great and all, but you don’t have a ring. You can be all this, all world, but you don’t have a ring. I have a ring. There’s nothing you can say to me right now.

Damn, Hines, where the hell did that come from? It would’ve been better if Hines talked trash about Eli and Archie at the same time. Just take the whole family down.

Indy isn’t on Pittsburgh’s schedule this year so perhaps they’ll see each other in the playoffs. Too bad they both play offense.
