Odds and Ends: Now John Daly’s wife accuses him of assault

Man, it’s a regular soap opera at the Daly household. A couple of days after John accused her of attacking him with a steak knife, Sherrie Daly is now claiming that he was drunk off his ass (must have been filming another Maxfli ad) and attacked her and scratched himself to cover it up.

John denied her account of the story but said he was not planning on filing criminal charges. The scratch marks on his face are a little too conveniently placed. We need a CSI: Golf Channel to solve this one.

Beckham gets new tattoo… immediately issues publicity photo

You want to talk about irresponsible journalism? The headline for a Sun UK article on Beckham’s new tattoo is “Bizarre: Beckham Breaks his arm.” Imagine a MLS executive seeing that on a newsreader.

Well, it turns out the headline is their clever way to say that Beckham likes the show Prison Break so much that he decided to get a similar tattoo on his arm. It took six hours but now Becks has a sleeve tattoo that says:

Let them hate as long as they fear.

What’s interesting to us is not that he got a tattoo but that he immediately had a publicity photo taken prominently showing off the tattoo. It’s only been a week. Perhaps this is how it works when you’re a celebrity athlete and the fate of the world rests in your hands. The world must know about Beckham’s new ink. Or perhaps this could just be a way for him to thwart the Beckhams lookalikes in the States.

Odds and Ends: Ugueth Urbina’s comeback with the Phillies will be slightly delayed

Little known fact: Ugueth Urbina throws right, bats right, but he wields a machete with his left hand. Who knew? ell… the 5 workers on his farm who were attacked by Urbina and other men. The 32-year-old “free” agent was sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempted murder by the Venezuelan judicial system.

His lawyer said that the punishment was too severe, probably because if he’d done that in the United States, the defense attorneys would have trotted out his coach and a teammate to say what a great guy his is and he would have only gotten four months in prison. Guess the Fightin’s have to look elsewhere to solve their bullpen problem.

And finally, a couple of stories from Steroid Nation. First, HGH was found in Anna Nicole Smith‘s autopsy. (Jesus, is there anyone not on HGH? Where can we order a batch? Anyone have Jason Grimsley’s phone number?) Second, if you need your glamour photos done and Glamour Shots by Deb is all booked up, you can have Tony Mandarich do them.
