Gotta love the random Geddy Lee appearance

Geddy Lee is one of the most underrated front men of all time. And it’s a little curious that he’s in this ESPN fantasy baseball commercial but it’s pretty damn amusing. Yeah yeah, we’re a little late on this but watching tourney coverage has seared this commercial into our brains. Any guesses as to who is doing the ghost singing for Kruk?

Gotta love Peter Gammons with the long hair. And is that Erin Andrews’ breasseses on the right? Oh and we’ll reserve commentary on John Kruk — we’re sure that the unimaginative bloggers hanging from Deadspin’s nuts fell all over themselves trying to be the first to make a “with leather” reference.

And as luck would have it, we just came across this comprehensive list of ESPN Sportscenter Commercials from Chicks Dig the Long Ball.

Tank Johnson gets 4 month prison sentence

Tank Johnson will be spending the next 60-120 days in jail despite Lovie Smith calling him a “good guy” who just made some bad decisions. We’re so sick of this “bad decisions” and “wrong place at the wrong time” stuff.

As a young kid, I grew up hard . . . I have made some mistakes in my life that are well-documented,” Johnson told Moran before being sentenced in a Skokie courtroom. But, he said, “I don’t believe I am a man who belongs in jail. I believe I deserve a chance to get it right.

You did get your second chance you dumbass. It was called probation. At some point, you have to not violate your probation by owning unregistered firearms. And you have to not get your bodyguard killed by going out to a club and getting into a fight.

Lovie also added that jail time would be “devastating” for Johnson’s playing career. Well isn’t that a shame. Because when normal criminals get sentenced to jail, it does wonders for their careers.

Don’t worry Bears fans, Tank’s incarceration won’t ruin the Bears chances next year — having Rex Grossman as your QB has already done that.

The worst opening day in tournament history

No buzzer beaters, no major upsets, nothing. That was the worst opening day of March Madness in a long long time. The only “upset” was that of Duke by VCU but most people thought that Duke’s seeding was by reputation and they didn’t deserve a 6 seed anyway. Sure, Xavier and Michigan State pulled off 9 over 8 upsets but that’s pretty much a coin flip. So everyone drowned in chalk. Jason Campbell must be ecstatic.

For the rest of us, we got to celebrate a Duke loss and wait for Coach K’s announcement that his back hurts after he loses a couple of players to the draft. Other than that, the only “did you see that?!?” moment was a gruesome injury to Idong Ibok. Ibok landed awkwardly, stuck out his hand to brace himself and dislocated his elbow. CBS must have show the replay 5 times and you can see his arm flailing about. It was reminiscent of Shaun Livingston‘s dislocated knee.

Here’s the video of the play but it unfortunately (mercifully) cut short of the entire CBS coverage as they don’t show his forearm flailing about. However, you do see the huge dent in his elbow where no huge dent should be. Ibok was back on the bench in the second half but his college career is over.

Yes, the fact that the higher seeds mostly won is an indication that the selection committee did their jobs (except for letting Stanford in and watching them get blown out) but that’s not what makes the tournament great. If there are a lot of upsets, no one blames the committee, they just talk about what a great upset it was. Let’s hope we get a better Day 2.

Jason Campbell is drowning in chalk

If you’re a Redskins fan, do you want a QB that takes risks or do you want a QB that just manages the game. Now an NCAA bracket isn’t a personality test but according to Jason Campbell’s bracket, he might be the biggest…er.. fraidy cat in the NFL. Look at this thing.

All four 1 seeds in the Final Four. 7 out of 8 1-2 seeds in the Elite Eight. (The exception is Duke… go figure.) And his sweet sixteen has 12 of the 16 overall top seeds. This is a travesty. You shouldn’t even be allowed to touch a bracket if you’re gonna go this route. His eventual champion? North Carolina of course.

Imagine Jason Campbell in the playoffs if the Redskins don’t get the #1 seed. “Oh, we’re a lower seed, we’ve got no shot.”

So Tonya Harding really does live in a trailer

What the hell was Clinton thinking?

Tonya Harding is back in the news after calling police twice. Once because she thought four men and a woman tried to steal her car. The second time because she said people were stashing rifles on her property. (Probably for the coming revolution.) Police were unable to find any evidence that pointed to her stories and said that Harding was very frustrated that no one else could see what she saw.

Harding just started taking new medication so that could be the reason she’s gone batshit crazy.

The deputy took Harding back to her trailer on Northeast Sunset Falls Road and checked her home to “put her at ease.

A trailer? Didn’t she get paid for knocking out Paula Jones in Fox’s “Decline of Western Civilization and We’re Documenting It” boxing special? It is almost a guaranteed lock that we’ll be reporting this same exact story in 5 years but replacing “Tonya Harding” with “Britney Spears”?

Chargers will sport white helmets with new duds

The Chargers previewed their new uniforms today and they’re going in two different ways. First the uniforms themselves are looking a little bit like AFL and NFL Europe unis (why is it that all uni changes seem to veer towards AFL unis?); however, they are going throwback with the helmets and using a yellow thunderbolt on a white helmet. They wisely decided to leave off the number on the helmet like the original franchise helmets. We have to say that the white helmet on the dark blue uniform looks really odd but maybe we’ll get used to it. The sweet sweet powder blue unis will remain as an alternate jersey.

For the Chargers, no gnews is good gnews. They took only a little leap from their current uniforms so there isn’t going to be a huge uproar like with the Sabres new uniforms. If anything, Bolts fans think the new uniforms might do for them what it did for the Broncos in 1997. (That’s a SB for you history impaired.) Good luck Chargers. Hope you built in a special panel on Shawne Merriman’s jersey so he can more easily inject himself in the ass.

Odds and Ends: Are you looking at George’s crotch again?

Well folks, there’s no other way to explain it. Apparently men (or at least the men in this study) are fixated on crotches. Some might say that we “respect the cock“.

A study by Jakob Nielsen to track how different people look at web pages came up with some unexpected results. According to the data, men tend to study the crotch and the face while women look only at the face. This also happens when the image was of an animal too. This was discovered on the American Kennel Club site. We couldn’t even make this stuff up. (via Can’t Stop the Bleeding)

You favorite baseball parks — Lego style

While MLB urns and coffins are getting all the press, we just found somethign that’s a lot cooler. You can can replicas of baseball stadiums built out of Legos and put whatever photo you want on the customized scoreboard. The “deluxe” stadium is made out of 3,500 lego blocks. Currently they have PNC Park, Heinz Field, Camden Yards, M&T Stadium, Citizens Bank Park, and Yankee Stadium but it looks like you can get them to build anything you want.

We’re waiting on a quote for our Veterans Stadium replica. We wonder if a LEGO Santa Claus or a LEGO Michael Irvin stretched out on the field costs a lot extra.

The Leon Lett of racing

We’re not sure what kind of racing this is. It’s like 1930s funny car or something but this guy is an idiot.
