In a match play whitewash, Tiger wins every hole on the front nine to dispatch Ames and head to the clubhouse early.

Sasha Cohen in first and a saucy little minx

I’m blogging way too much about ice skating but it is the highlight of the winter olympics and the U.S. hockey team stinks. (Does this make me gay?)

In any case, Sasha Cohen is leading the way after the short program but according to people who follow the sport, she’s the Byung-Hyun Kim of ice skating – can’t close.

She has the most tantalizing talent, and yet she can’t seem to do two clean programs in a single competition. In fact, in skating circles, Cohen is often discussed in the shorthand of a baseball scout. “Can’t hit the curve” becomes “can’t put together two programs.”

I don’t know why but I will be watching the rest of the Olympics to see if she can win it. I guess she is NBC’s favorite person right now.

In other news, Sasha Cohen is a saucy little minx, and toying with Shaun White: “Yeah, I’m fond of gold medals. I’ll probably see him at Closing Ceremonies.” Better get your rap ready, Shaun.

Knicks to acquire Steve Francis

Stevie ex-Franchise

[Update] It looks like I was wrong about Isiah, he did trade away an expiring contract for dead weight. Trevor Ariza and Penny were traded to the Magic for Francis.

By the time you read this, it might already be a done deal. The New York Times is reporting that a deal to send Francis to the Knicks was “more likely than not” and the deal could be done by as early as Wednesday.

The Knicks would get Francis and Pat Garrity for Jamal Crawford, Maurice Taylor, and Trevor Ariza. Penny Hardaway’s expiring contract isn’t part of the deal. Maybe Isiah Thomas finally figured out that at least keeping some dead weight that’s going to expire is better than taking on more dead weight. Who am I kidding, the entire Knicks team is dead weight.

Shani Davis and Chad Hedrick round 2

Chad is this big

After Davis and Hedrick took silver and bronze in the 1500 meter, the rivalry heated up in the post game press conference with Shani Davis at one end of the table and Chad Hedrick on the other end.

Hedrick has said previously that he was upset at Davis for not skating in the team pursuit and he reiterated that he felt betrayed and that Davis should support his country and give his team the best chance to win.

Shani Davis let loose about Hedrick’s post 1000 meter snub.

I’m just putting it out there….I’m just putting it out there….I would have thought that another American would have shook my hand after I’d won the 1,000 meters the way I shook his hand – the way I hugged him – after he won the 5,000. He only shakes my hand when I lose. Typical Chad.

Davis then walked out of the press conference. This should get very interesting in the future if the two ever skate in the same heat On the other hand, it’s too bad this rivalry isn’t between Johnny Weir and another male figure skater. Could you imagine that bitch fight?

Sixers trade Tickets for Guns

My shooting % is up

I knew the Sixers were having trouble selling out the Wachovia Center this year but filling up the arena with gun owners doesn’t seem like the smartest idea.

Anyone bringing an operable gun to a specified Philadelphia police station will receive a voucher for two upper-level tickets to a selected 76ers game in March. Limited tickets to the following games are as follows: March 9 vs. Denver; March 14 vs. Toronto; March 22 vs. Atlanta; and March 24 vs. Orlando. There will be no questions asked about the firearm; it will simply be collected at the station, melted down and refurbished into playground equipment. Collections will take place from Feb. 22-March 1, at all Philadelphia Police district locations, 24 hours per day.

Two upper level tickets are about $80. Hmm, it’s been a while since I bought a gun in Philly (ok fine, a Super Soaker) but I think you can get more than $80 on the street for a handgun. Still, I guess gun owners aren’t very smart because last time the Sixers did this, they collected about 900 guns. Oh right, it’s to get rid of guns on the street, not to get a good deal. Gotcha.

Note to self, avoid Sixers game on March 9, 14, 22 and 24th.

Help us, Sasha Cohen, you’re our only hope

The U.S. isn’t exactly tearing it up on the Gold medal board in Torino. The big names we expected to podium this year such as Bode Miller and Apolo Ohno have fizzled out and the US Hockey team can barely top Latvia. This has been a very disappointing Olympics, even if you don’t work for NBC.

Luckily, the biggest event where we still have a shot is the women’s figure skating and it rests on the shoulders of Shaun White’s crush, Sasha Cohen. I can’t believe I’m blogging about women’s figure skating. I guess this is what happens when March Madness is still so far away.

By the way, I still can’t figure out if Sasha is hot or not.

Freddy Garcia was robbed

Not in the way that Andre Igoudala wuz robbed, more like how Duce Staley was robbed. Freddy went to a restaurant in Miami last week and some thieves stole his escalade and along with it, $100,000 worth of jewelry. Note to athletes: just because you can afford $100k in jewelry doesn’t mean you should.

Police found the Escalade but it was completely destroyed. No word on whether Freddy cried like a little girl upon seeing his wrecked car or whether he’s going to go Jefferson in Fast Times and take it out on opposing players at the WBC.

Odds and Ends for Tuesday Feb 21: Vin Baker is back

Vin Baker used to be really good. And when he was really good, it was ok to named Vin. Then he really sucked and I’ve been cursing his name since. But he’s making a comeback attempt and the Clippers are dumb enough to take a chance.

Bode Miller stinks

If my aunt had…

Well, after all the hype, the magazine covers, the joinbode.com campaign, it turns out that Bode Miller sucks. After finishing 6th in the Giant Slalom, Bode is 0-4 with one event left to go.

Apparently, Bode lives in the same make believe world as some myopic sports fans:

If things went well, I could be sitting on four medals, maybe all of them gold.

Well…ok… I guess that’s a legitimate statement. I mean, I know how he feels, if things had gone well this weekend, I coulda been sitting on four playmates, maybe all of them blonde.

[MSNBC]: Bode confident despite missing medal again
