2005 Sportsman of the Year: Terrell Owens?

Happier times

OK, it doesn’t have the cachet of Sports Illustrated but it’s a damn fine website nonetheless. The700Level.com has named TO as their Sportsman of the year. The site lists all the accomplishments of TO during the 2005 year and is a sad walk down memory lame for Eagles fans. The most amusing fact is that his girlfriend’s last name is Terrell.

TO more important than war in Iraq

Arlen Specter, Senator from Pennsylvania and avid Iggles fan, decided that more important than the War in Iraq and the economy was the TO situation. He stated that the Eagles’ punishment was “vindictive and inappropriate” and is considering referring the matter to the antitrust subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Legal experts say his the antitrust charge holds less water than his insane magic bullet theory.

Some players get name dropped by rappers; TO trumps them all by getting the attention of a US senator! Take that, Jevon Kearse! (Wu Tang for those of you wondering.)

Ashes at the Linc not just remains of Eagles’ season

Christopher Noteboom ran onto Lincoln Financial field during the Eagles-Packers game with a bag full of his mother’s ashes and spread them onto the field as a final tribute to his mother, who was a lifelong Eagles fan. Normally, we consider people running onto the field idiots but we’ll cut this guy some slack since it was an original idea. Still, in this heightened terrorist climate, I’m not sure letting a bunch of white/gray powder go in a crowded stadium is the smartest of moves.

Luckily, this wasn’t done during the Cowboys heyday or Michael Irvin would’ve hoovered up the powder before it ever hit the ground.

Eagles to TO: Checkmate

Remember in Searching for Bobby Fischer when Max offers his opponent a draw? Well, according to ESPN, the Eagles have sent Terrell Owens a letter informing him of his behaviorial issues and what is expected of him when he comes back to camp.  Jesus, it’s like dealing with a 8 year old who won’t behave in class.

All this, folks, is just for the Eagles to cover their asses should they need to suspend him for the rest of the season.

The End of the World as We Know It

Skip Bayless is actually (somewhat) defending T.O.  In his latest column, Brainless says, “I don’t blame Owens for the migraine of a mess the Eagles find themselves in. I blame the Eagles.”  Holy Crap.  This is like saying Comedy Central is responsible for Dave Chappelle going off the deep end.

Bayless contends that the Eagles front office, being a bunch of arrogant jerks, gave all TO the advantage because they refused to trade him or acquire another WR right after his spat with DMac started.  Basically, they thought they could control what no one else could control: TO’s ego.

“If the Eagles lose without Owens, the fans who have turned on him now will all but riot for the Eagles to bring him back. Oh, does Terrible have the Eagles right where he wants them.”

Meanwhile, I’ve been hearing that the Eagles FO is more than willing to use the “nuclear option” and suspend TO without pay for the rest of season.  And they’re just waiting for a buttoned up, player union proof way to show that he’s violated the “good citizen” clause in his contract.
