Gentlemen, you’re next up on the tee

Memphis Grizzlies: The poor Grizzlies. They have a superstar that’s not really marketable. They are survivors from a terrible situation in Vancouver. And they still haven’t won a playoff game in 12 tries. This is the third straight sweep. This time at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks. Just think, if they’d have lost that (now meaningful) last game against the Clippers, they would’ve gotten the Nuggets who were soft as can be.

Denver Nuggets: Speaking of the Nuggets, they didn’t put up any resistence in the elimination game last night. After averaging slightly over 100 points in the regular season, the Nugs averaged only 87 points against the Clippers. Meanwhile, Carmello Anthony’s scoring average dropped 5.5 points from the regular season to the playoffs. Way to step it up in crunch time, Melo. Oh, and don’t even mention Kenyon Martin.

Congratulations to the Clippers, who ended a 30 year playoff drought to advance to the second round.

Detroit Red Wings: Finally, we have the Red Wings. The #1 seed in the Western Conference. (That’s NHL if you aren’t paying attention.) So how did they lose to the Edmonton Oilers, a team that they beat in the standings by 29 points! The Red Wings gave up 4 goals and blew 2 leads in the third period. This Detroit fan is pretty calm considering what happened to his team. While this guy takes it in stride because they wouldn’t have beaten Calgary or New Jersey anyway. Interesting way to look at it. But it doesn’t take away the shame of losing to an 8 seed.

Congratulations to the Oilers and their fans. It was a surreal sight at the Rexall Center last night and we always pull for the underdogs.

Players knocks out ref in Uruguay basketball league

This is an insane clip of an Argentian basketball player knocking out a ref Kermit Washington style. Will this ever happen in the NBA?

Also, check out this short clip of a hockey player fighting with a ref.

Final 2005-2006 NBA Power Ranking Roundup

Well, the NBA season has come to a close and here are your final power rankings from the major sites. With the exception of Team Rankings.com, everyone expects the Pistons to beat the Spurs for the NBA Championship. With MVP candidate Chauncy Billups leading the way, they are just too stacked top to bottom to lose to the rest of this field. Of course, we thought the same thing about UConn.

NBA Power Rankings Roundup for Apr 12 2006

We’re still scratching our heads over the rankings from Sports Illustrated. They’re the only ones who still have the Clippers ranked higher than 10th, the only one with the Wizards in the top 10 and the Suns not in the top 10. Losing Amare for the season is a big problem but the Suns still belong in the top 10.

Miami Heat Dancers win NBA Dance Team Bracket

We’re big fans

As if there was any doubt. In a dominating performance, the Miami Heat Dance team knocked out the Sacramento Kings Dance Team 77% to 23%.

Frankly, we had a hard time understanding how the Kings Dance Team even made it that far. In order to get through the western conference, they had to beat the Lakers, Clippers, Suns and Sonics. How do you get though 2 LA teams? Like Mikey from Swingers said, “The hottest one percent from around the world migrate to this gene pool.”

But enough about the losers, we would like to raise a glass to the Miami girls, who frankly shouldn’t be allowed to be in future NBA Dance Team tournaments. It’s not fair to the rest of the teams. Just look at their photo galleries.

NBA Power Rankings Roundup for Apr 5 2006

While the Pistons and Spurs battle for the top of the Power Rankings, the Nets are making their case that they might be the team to come out of the east. They have a 13 game winning streak and could win out from here. The Suns are starting to drop in most polls because of the season ending injury to Amare Stoudamire. With only a couple of weeks left in the season, it’ll be interesting to see how teams end up in the power rankings.

Best of Barkley

Orson Welles?

In honor of Barkley’s induction into the Hall of Fame, here are some of the best quotes from the Round Mound of Rebound. They’re from various sources on the net. Man, Charles Barkley has a lot of quotes. No wonder why reporters loved him.

  • You know the world is off tilt when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest basketball player is Chinese and Germany doesn’t want to go to war.
  • I don’t listen to refs. I don’t listen to anyone who makes less money than I do.
  • I don’t like the people of Boston. I think I should call Ripley’s because they have the greatest collection of assholes ever up here.
  • You can’t compare preseason to regular season. Preseason is just a way to screw fans out of money.
  • When a guy comes down the lane, I want him to be wondering what side I’m going to hit him front.
  • If I were seven feet tall, I’d be illegal in three states.
  • You got to believe in yourself. Hell, I believe I’m the best looking guy in the world. And I might be right.
  • There will never be another player like me. I’m the ninth wonder of the world.
  • Having [Moses Malone] around means there’s somebody uglier than me on the team.
  • (Letter to Bill Laimbeer) Dear Bill, Fuck you. Love, Charles Barkley.
  • I thought Bill Laimbeer was the whiniest, most despicable, most disgusting guy in the game. On the other hand, I always respected him as a player.
  • There are only three things in life that I have to do. I have to stay black, I have to pay taxes and I have to die. Other than that, don’t tell me what to do.
  • I can be bought. If they paid me enough, I’d work for the Klan.
  • (On Josh Smith’s dunk) That’s impossible. That’s like Dick Cheney trying to find another hunting partner.
  • I’m gonna go home and get naked again in the mirror cuz I don’t look like Rerun or Al Roker. There’s some deception going on. I’m not fat y’all! I’m big-boned.
  • I hope a lot of these young kids look at [Dwayne Wade], who went to college. Everybody is in such a hurry. Hey, the money is not going anywhere… and if you go to the right college, you can get paid there… Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee
  • (To Steve Kerr) Hey Steve, no offense, but if you couldn’t shoot, there would be no reason for you to be alive.
  • (To Kenny Smith) Oh man! I can’t stand the X-Files! I don’t believe in Extra-Terrestrials… until I saw your girlfriend one night. She needs to phone home.
  • (On fat people) First of all, they killed Oreos. You know they can’t make the Double-Stuff Oreos anymore because fat people can’t keep their mouths shut. Now they’re killing the McDonald’s super-size. Can you believe that? Just because fat people are lazy and don’t work out and can’t keep they’re mouths shut, they have to ruin it for everybody. They’ll probably kill ice cream next! Is that my fault they can’t stop eating? I’m so sick of these fat people suing these companies. Stop eating!
  • (To AC Green) If god’s so good, how come he didn’t give you a jump shot?
  • I love Sam Cassell, he’s a great guy… but he does look like E.T.
  • In four years, I’ll be the first black governor of Alabama. In eight years, I’ll be the first black president
  • I saw what the governor makes. That’s like four hands of blackjack.
  • I don’t care what people think. People are stupid.

NBA Power Rankings Roundup for Mar 30 2006

Most agree the Spurs are till the top team in the league except for NBA.com which has them as #2. As for movers and shakers, the Nets are on a tear, winning 10 straight for the second time this season. Accordingly, they were rewarded in most polls. The highest they are ranked is #4 in the Fox Sports power rankings. The Kings are the biggest losers in most polls. After flirting with the top 10, the Kings are nowhere to be found this week after losing 3 of their last 5.

Updating the NBA Dance Team bracket

With all the great NCAA tourney games, we forgot about the other tournament going on until Supersonicsoul.com reminded us about it. In a stunning upset, the Sonic Dance Team won 59-41% against the Houston Rockettes.

We had predicted that the Rockettes would get to the Final Four against the Lakers. Meanwhile, the Lakers were upset by the Kings, who are going up against the Suns Dance Team for the other spot in the west semifinials. We did get one part of the east side correct with the Miami Heat Dancers beating the Pistons. They will meet the winner of the Nets and Knicks Dancers matchup.

Based on the photo to your left, I don’t see how the Heat Dancers can possibly lose this tournament.
