JJ Redick arrested for DUI

The Duke lacrosse team would like to thank JJ Redick for his support. First, during the tourney, he spoke up for them and said they were a great bunch of guys. Now, his arrest for DUI means that when you search for Duke+crime, you aren’t automatically redicted to the Duke lacross homepage.

Early this morning, JJ spotted a police checkpoint and decided that he was too drunk to drive so he made an illegal u-turn and headed the other way. Unfortunately for him, that move only raises suspicions and the cops followed him and pulled him over. Redick blew. Oh, and he also registered a .11 on the breathalyzer in a state where the legal limit is .08. Redick was arrested, booked, and released on $1000 bond.

When asked how he paid the bond, he said, “Straight cash homey. Ain’t nothing but a grand. What’s a grand to me? Ain’t shit … Next time I might shake my dick.”

Redick — Great ending to the article!

In Redick’s defense, a 0.11 is a pretty low reading on the breathalyzer.  While technically you’re over the limit, you can have two pints and a burger in an hour and blow a 0.11.  This could be a case of the Durham Police going out of their way to embarrass a Duke athlete.

JJ Redick’s DUI — Here is a quote from JJ Redick’s agent about his DUI incident the other night:

“J.J. is an outstanding student-athlete of the highest character,” his agent, Arn Tellem, said in a statement. “He is (an) exemplary role model and a credit to his family and the entire Duke community. This is nothing more than an isolated incident.”

If JJ was of the HIGHEST character he would not have been drunk and would not have been driving. As a high profile college student, the chances that this was an “isolated incident” are slim to none.  What was the “isolated incident”, is that he got caught.

I know, for 17 years I thought I was of higher character than what I in fact was.

Going out and getting really buzzed or really plastered (either way I was drunk) was a regular occurrence for me from age 18-35.

In 1998 I finally had my “isolated incident” of a DUI after being truly guilty of it MANY, MANY times before. I thank God that He finally got my attention through the DUI.

I understand what it is like to be a partying college kid, deceived the entire time that I was not harming myself and others.

I also understand what it is like to be delivered from the bondage of alcohol by a gracious God that loves me dearly, as he loves JJ.  Thank God he delivered me from that bondage.

I hope and pray that this is a wake-up call for JJ and he does not ruin the incredible opportunity that awaits him in the NBA.
I think he is an AMAZING basketball player, I understand his issue with alcohol and wish him ALL the best for a LONG and SUCCESSFUL career in the NBA.
