MLB Power Rankings Roundup for Fri June 30 2006

Despite being 11 games out of first place in the division and 8.5 games out of the Wild Card, the Twins have won 8 in a row and have made a charge into the top ten in power rankings. They might not make the playoffs but at least they’re getting some recognition for their stellar play.

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for Fri Jun 23 2006

The Met’s reign at the top of the Power Rankings has ended for now. After losing 4-7, most rankings dropped them a notch or two. However, the TSN folks have us scratching our heads. Last week, they ranked the Mets #2, but after their mediocre road trip, elevated them to #1. Must be that good BC bud.

Well, it’s almost unanimous — the Mets are the best team in baseball. The Amazings have won 10 in a row and are running away with the NL East. Now if only those Canadians would accept the dominance of the Mets, the survey would be unanimous.

Don’t look now but the Braves are making a move and are now in the top 10 in half of the sites we survey. With the Mets playing lights out in clutch situations, it’s going to be hard for the Braves to win a 15th consecutive division title but don’t count them out yet.

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for May 26 2006

The Tigers and the White Sox vie for MLB Power Ranking supremecy but not much has changed in a week in the top 10. Except for the Dodgers. The other team from LA have won 7 in a row, most recently sweeping the previous Top 10 team the Rockies. It only takes a hot streak to reach or fall out of the top 10, which is why the White Sox and the Tigers (?!) are so impressive.

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for May 19 2006

The various sites in our rankings survey publish their lists at different times throughout the week. That should be noted because Sportsline put the Phillies at #2 three days ago. That’s exactly when the Phils went on a 3 game slide. So Sportsline gets a pass this week.

Meanwhile, the A’s and Padres are the odd ducks in the top 10 this week, making only one list each. It’s hard to argue against the Padres who are playing tremendous ball but the As are only 5-5 in their last ten. Maybe ESPN is letting Stephen A Smith do the baseball power rankings now.

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for May 12 2006

While the White Sox and Mets still are the cream of the crop, there has been some movement below them. The Rockies and Phillies are the darlings of the Power Rankings this week.

The Rockies made the top 10 in four of the six sites we surveyed and narrowly missed out on the other two. Of course, TSN already had them in their top 10 last week, as they did the Tigers before everyone jumped on the Detroit bandwagon. So, are our neighbors to the north that much more savvy than the rest of us? Or are they just getting lucky?

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for 5-5-06

Has a team every gone wire to wire as the best consensus team in baseball? And will the White Sox be able to pull that off and win the World Series? Should be interesting to see if this team hits any rough patches during the season. They have to… right?

Meanwhile, the Tigers and their league leading 3.17 ERA pitching staff are the darlings of this week’s rankings climbing. But don’t tell that to TSN, who already had the Tigers #1 as of last week. The Tigers are doing well, but #1? Is the guy who writes the rankings for TSN related to Jim Leyland?

Here are your power rankings from the major sites this week. **Note that there is no update from USA Today. They must be busy writing the news for 4th graders…

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for Apr 28 2006

Everyone agrees that the White Sox are the best team in baseball. That is, except TSN who have the Tigers in the #1 slot. Since this isn’t a joke, we have to wonder what they’re thinking. Although last week, they were the only people to have the Reds in the top 10. This week, the rest of the crew is catching up and the Reds have moved up in most power rankings after leading the league in offense.
