Speaking about his statement that the league told him they made an error in allowing two Giants TDs the week before, Holgrem said, “I kind of messed up” and that he should have just said it was between him and the league. The only problem is that the cat is out of the bag. In a statement released Tuesday, the league said:
Our officiating department never discussed with the Seahawks the Amani Toomer touchdown reception, which was properly called. The Jeremy Shockey touchdown catch at the end of the first half was not overturned because the referee determined that there was insufficient visual evidence to reverse the call.”
So by saying that he shouldn’t have told us what the league told him, Holmgren is indicating that the league did in fact tell him the two TDs were mistakes, and, on top of that, the league lied in the Tuesday statement. Holmgren said he expects to be fined. I wonder what the fine is for embarrassing the league.
