Even though LeBron declined to be in the Dunk contest this year, it could turn out to be an all time classic. Josh Smith won it last year with some imaginative and amazing dunks so he’s the favorite but Iguodala is absolutely sick with what his body can do in the air. Check out this anatomy of an AI2 dunk. Nate Robinson will be the fan favorite as he’s only 5-9″, bringing back memories of Spud Webb. The dark horse here is Hakim Warrick. Let’s hope no one pulls a Chris Andersen and need 20 attempts to make a dunk.

Keeping the Jailblazer tradition alive
Isaiah J.R. Rider was arrested yesterday for kidnapping and battery in Marin, CA. Now, when I read the headline, I thought perhaps Isaiah had pulled a Rick James and kidnapped some woman, chained her to the wall, and burned her cigarettes, but it turns out he just got into an argument with a female acquaintance and drove off with her against her will. Police her heard screaming and pulled him over.
Who could have possibly guessed that Isaiah was capable of such a thing. I mean, sure, he used to spit at fans and once kicked a woman in the back at an autograph signing, but, really, who hasn’t? I say let he who has never made a bong out of a Sprite can cast the first stone.

Here are the NBA Power Rankings by top sites this week. Not much change in the top slots as the Pistons and Spurs are still the class of the league. Everyone mostly agrees on the top 10, except for Foxsports which is the only site to list the Denver Nuggets in the top 10.

NBA jumps on reality bandwagon
ABC announced a new show with Michael Jordan barnacle, Ahmad Rashad, called “NBA Access with Ahmad Rashad”. According to the reuters article:
Cameras will follow such stars as Shaquille O’Neal, Richard Jefferson and Carmelo Anthony, as well as Suns coach Mike D’Antoni and the Maloof brothers, who own the Sacramento Kings. There will be scenes from their lives on and off the court, along with reports from places nationwide.
Hmmm, let’s see, David Stern institutes a dress code because the core group he’s appealing to (corporate drones) can’t relate to the hip hop fashions but showing players finding new ways to hide their pot and claiming it wasn’t theirs will help cozy up to the audience.
File under: Irony
Under the one time amnesty agreement for luxury cap payments, teams cut 18 players to save $212M. Yet the one player that was sure lock to get cut doesn’t. Go figure. The players cut were: Alonzo Mourning, Vin Baker, Derrick Coleman, Wesley Person, Eddie Robinson, Jerome Williams, Michael Finley, Ron Mercer, Calvin Booth, Aaron McKie, and Howard Eisley. Don’t feel too bad though, these guys all get their guaranteed money while being able to double dip and sign another contract with another team. Good work, GMs.
