A 28-year-old man named “Raphael” jumped on the ice at a Canadiens practice and took a couple of shots at Jose Theodore before he was chased down by the coach and kicked out of the arena. He stated that he always wanted to play high caliber hockey and he wanted to “show the Canadiens what he could do on the ice.”
I didn’t really know what was going on until the guy came on,” a grinning Theodore said later. “He came at me with his head down so…I poke-checked him to say `You have to keep your head up.’ When he came back, I though about going out of the net and not playing into his game, but then I thought he had the (courage) to go on the ice, so I let him have a free shot at me. “He couldn’t beat me. Defenseman Craig Rivet stood guard but the man left peacefully. The police came and decided not to arrest him because it wasn’t a police matter. No bone rattling checks from a defender? No arrest? Oh those crazy Canadiens!
