MLB Power Rankings Roundup – Opening Day 2007 editing

Well folks, it is finally here. Baseball season is only a couple of days away and what better way to get things rolling than to check out the Power Rankings from around the league. ESPN must be too busy trying to find a new editor-in-chief and firing Joe Theisman to write their Power Rankings but everyone else is on board with their preseason ranks.

We’ll be updating this list every Friday for you. By the way, east coast bias? What east coast bias?

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for Sep 22 2006

Well, only one more week left in the season and we’re down to the teams that really matter in the top ten. The Twins have been rising rising rising and have inexplicably come within 1/2 a game of the central lead as of press time. Their rankings around the web have likewise risen. As for the White Sox, does a team that won’t even make the postseason belong in the top 10?

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for Aug 25 2006

As expected, the Red Sox took the biggest tumble this week across the board after the disaster that was last weekend at Fenway. However they still manage to stay in the Top 10 in all rankings. This week, the Angels and A’s make some moves as the AL West race heads into the home stretch.

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for Aug 18 2006

Despite their recent troubles (4-6 in their last 10) most sites still deem the Tigers to be the best team in the league. Meanwhile the Yankees, Red Sox, and White Sox all fit somewhere in the top 5 yet one of those teams won’t make the playoffs. This should be a very interesting race down the stretch.

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for July 28 2006

Don’t look now folks but the Yankees are creeping up the Power Rankings charts, making it into the top slot on the ESPN and TSN polls. The reasoning? Well, as TSN puts it: “Bringing in Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle is the kind of bold move that gives the Yankees the kind of boost in the lineup, and help in the rotation that will make them contenders right to the end, again.”

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for July 28 2006

Remember when we made fun of TSN for putting the Twins in their number one spot?  Well, perhaps #1 is still a stretch but no one can argue that the Twins are the hottest team in baseball.  On the flip side, the team they just caught up to are 2-8 since the All-Star break.  Maybe TSN wasn’t so crazy after all.

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for July 21 2006

We are seriously starting to doubt TSN’s ability to do their power rankings. A couple of weeks ago, they had the Twins in their number 1 spot. This week, when everyone else has the Tigers as the best team in baseball, they go with the Red Sox. Now, the Red Sox isn’t a terrible choice but when everyone else recognizes the Tigers, shouldn’t those crazy canucks see it too?

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for July 14 2006

Not much changes in the power rankings the week of the All-Star break. However, TSN took the opportunity to juggle their top 10 — go figure. But they finally have the Tigers at #1 and so it’s almost unanimous in our survey. ESPN is the lone holdout with the White Sox on top but they didn’t even bother updating their rankings this week.

MLB Power Rankings Roundup for July 7 2006

As we head into the All-Star break, everyone agrees that the Tigers and White Sox are the two best teams in baseball. Everyone, that is, except the folks at TSN.ca who have the Twins as the #1 ranked team with nary an explanation. Sure the Twins are 8-2 in their last 10 but they are also 10 games out of first place in the AL Central and 9 games out of the wildcard standings. What are they doing up there in TSN?
