News and Comentary About Chicago White Sox

It's kind of sad when someone has to sell their World Series ring but hey, thanks to ebay, you can get $28,100 for a ring appraised at $7,950. The ring was put on sale by Tommy Thompson, the catchers coach from the 2005 team. It's interesting that a Red Sox 2004 World Series ring went for $35,000 last week while a Florida Marlins 1997 World Series ring is unsold at $9,999 with two hours left in the auction. Talk about an indication of the loyalty and passion of the respective fan bases. In other news... We don't ever remember hearing about Jim Leyland saying anything bad about anybody. And even though he manages the Detroit Tigers, what has he ever done to Ozzie Guillen except beat him out for a playoff spot last year? So it's quite puzzling that Ozzie Guillen would launch an unprovoked attack on the Tigers manager. (Not surprising that Ozzie would talk out of his ass, suprising that it was directed towards Leyland.)
Ozzie is amusing sometimes because he gives sportswriters and bloggers something to write about. But we wish someone would open a can of STFU for him already. Actually, what would be better would be a Tigers-White Sox brawl and have 63 year old Leyland kick his ass.

We usually roll our eyes when corporate greed takes over baseball (remember the Spiderman basepads?) but a new deal that the Chicago White Sox have inked with 7-11 stores is absolute genius. From now on, weeknight games at US Cellular Field will start at 7:11 so that "every time the media announces the game's start time, it will be a gentle reminder of our sponsorship". Pretty good. Pretty pretty good. No details of the deal have been released but it is expected to be at least $500,000. Half a mil to push back a start time by 6 minutes? Whoever did this deal deserves a promotion. Insert your own Portland Trailblazers 4:20 start time joke here. Links:

Nice try Ozzie, but last August, Ozzie jokingly yelled out at a friend during a press conference, "Hey, everybody, this guy's a homosexual! He's a child molester!" In other news... Police found the Escalade but it was completely destroyed. No word on whether Freddy cried like a little girl upon seeing his wrecked car or whether he's going to go Jefferson in Fast Times and take it out on opposing players at the WBC.

It's amazing how people in sports have no concept of what is right and wrong. Either everyone is always misquoted or these idiots think they're in a closed locker room even when they're speaking in front of reporters. Ozzie Guillen went from defending Caribbean players in one breath to disparaging gays in the next. His comment on Larry Krueger, a San Francisco sportscaster who said he was sick of brain dead caribbean hitters was, "that's just ignorant, man." And then upon seeing (possibly a friend) shouted, "Hey, everybody, this guy's a homosexual! He's a child molester!"
