We take our football as seriously as anyone out there or at least we thought we did. Turns out that Packer fans probably have us beat.

The NFL Network has plenty of people up in arms about their hogging of exclusive games, leaving countless cable subscribers without their fix, but maybe no sect is more P.O.'d about it than the Cheeseheads. We really do sympathize, it does totally suck to miss your favorite team take the field, especially when it is a big time showdown like this Thursday's battle between the 10-1 Pack and the 10-1 Cowboys, but you might want to find a new release if missing a game is going to screw up your whole stinkin' life.

That's left plenty of Packer backers seriously peeved.

Bill Bessette, of Madison, said it's traumatic for fans who plan their life around the team's games. The game won't be shown on cable in Madison.

Dawn Harrod, of Wausau, said she is worried about her 95-year-old mother, who's an avid Packers fan but will miss the game.

"Traumatic" is usually something reserved for serious tragedies, not missing Brett Favre's millionth interception, Bill. And for Ms. Harrod, when game time rolls around, just throw in a tape of Green Bay's 1995 loss to the `Boys in the NFC Conference Championship game. Your mom is 95 years old, she'll never know the difference.

Alycia Lane's publicist...er... the Philadelphia Inquirer had an interview today with Alycia Lane aka the chick who sent photos of herself in a bikini to Rich Eisen's wife by mistake. In the interview, Lane tried to defend her photos as "harmless banter between to old friends, and not as an attempt to entire the Los Angeles-based Eisen or break up his marriage..."

Damn, we really gotta get to work on our harmless banter.  Don't worry, Alycia, this won't hurt your career one bit.  If anything, you can go national now. (hat tip: Sports By Brooks)

We've always liked Rich Eisen -- he's funny, goofy, and compared to his counterparts over at ESPN, he's actually enjoyable. But we never really thought of Eisen as a ladies man. Still, when you're getting emails from one of the hottest anchorwomen in Philly, you're doing ok for yourself.

According to the NY Post, Alycia Lane sent a bunch of emails to Rich Eisen including some with photos of herself in a bikini. Unfortunately, she sent it to an email account that Rich shares with his wife. Doh! Eisen's wife, Suzy Shuster, was not pleased and fired off a response to Lane:

Boy, do you look amazing in a bikini . . . congrats! Whatever you're doing, (Pilates? yoga?) keep doing it - it's working for you. Anyway, sorry but those seven e-mails you sent to my husband, Rich, well, oops, they came to the e-mail address we both use from time to time, but no worries, I'll forward the beach shots as well as the ones of you dancing with your friends on to his main address. Do you have it?

Good for you Suzy! But remember, next time Suzy, don't just reply to the email, cc us at editor@sportscolumn.com. We need to verify that Alycia Lane does in fact look amazing in a bikini.

We imagine Rich couldn't have come out of it unscathed. Maybe he can interview various NY Giants for marital tips.

Last night on the NFL Network pregame show, Adam Schefter reported that a "high-ranking Raiders official" informed him that Art Shell would be fired after the season. About half an hour later, the Raiders immediately issued a press release that refuted the report.

ADAM SCHEFTER HAS ALWAYS BEEN A FALSE RUMOR MONGERER WITH RESPECT TO THE RAIDERS AND ANTI-RAIDER BASED UPON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH DENVER AND WITH MIKE SHANAHAN.

NO DECISIONS HAVE BEEN MADE RELATIVE TO THE 2007 OAKLAND RAIDERS NOR WILL THEY BE MADE FOR SOME TIME.

ADAM SCHEFTER COULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN HIS INFORMATION FROM A "RELIABLE SOURCE" BECAUSE THERE'S ONLY ONE RELIABLE SOURCE AND HE DOESN'T TRUST ADAM.

Shefter at halftime said that he sticks by his story and said that if Al Davis wanted to attack his credibility, all he had to do was say that Art Shell would be the coach of the Raiders next season but failed to do so.

And the press release probably was sent directly from Al Davis' computer because it was typed in ALL CAPS. We get the feeling that a crotchety old Al Davis will keep Art Shell on next season just to spite Adam Schefter and his "bias". Nevermind that Shell is absolutely wrong for the job and the Raiders will go 3-13 next year.

The 2006 NFL Draft will be televised on both ESPN and the NFL Network this year so the big question is, where are you going to get your coverage?

On the one hand, ESPN has got 26 years of experience so they know what they're doing. On the other, it might be time for a change. NFL Network has Rich Eisen, Mike Mayock (yeah, we couldn't pick him out of a lineup either) and Corey Chavous. Not exactly a dream lineup but not completely terrible either. ESPN's got Chris Berman, who, if you aren't sick of yet, you aren't paying attention.

At the end of the day, ESPN's got Mel Kiper. And draft coverage without Mel Kiper is like Comedy Central without Dave Chappelle. Still, we'll be checking out the NFL Network's coverage just to see what they have to say. And we suspect a lot of people will as well. This could be the lowest rated draft for ESPN in years.
