The Eagles just had the first tie game in 6 years.  Against the Bengals.   And to add insult (or hilarity) to injury, here's McNabb telling a reporter that he didn't know NFL games can end in ties.   Hmmm, I guess that explains the lack of urgency during the last couple minutes of the game.  

Wait.. check that, there was no urgency at all during the game either.

The Eagles uniforms might be the ugliest duds ever donned, but Donovan McNabb and Kevin Curtis sure did like the way they fit.

The duo hooked up for a league record tying 205 yards on nine catches in the first half of Philly's annihilation of the Lions. With touchdowns of 68, 12 and 43 yards under his belt before halftime, fantasy owners were loving life and already writing up their smack for the upcoming week before the second half kickoff.

And if the NFL mirrors the college game, then Detroit's defensive coordinator might want to start packing his desk a little early.

After Texas Tech gave up 610 yards of offense to Oklahoma State in a 49-45 loss, Lyle Setencich stepped down from his job as defensive coordinator with the Red Raiders. It might not go down in the books as a firing, but after hearing what `pirate master' Mike Leach had to say about his club, we have a feeling it wasn't solely for the "personal reasons" Setencich claims.

After the game, Leach was critical of his players and coaching staff, saying "defensively, in the entire first half, we got hit in the mouth and acted like somebody took our lunch money, and all we wanted to do was have pouty expressions on our face until somebody daubed our little tears and made us feel better.

But to make sure there were no hard feelings, Leach threw in the obligatory line of BS that every fired coach receives:

We appreciate Lyle and the work he did for our program," Leach said. "We wish him and his family the best.

Geez, thanks coach.

Sure, Terrell Owens is fun to watch play; after all, you never know if he's going to blow up for 150 yards and a trio of TDs or just plain blow up on an assistant coach. But we really love listening to TO yap about football. Yup, we just loves us some TO.

Owens even delved into the taboo topic of dogfighting, saying he attended one "when I was younger."

"Being from the South, that's something that's very prevalent in that area," he said.

Later, he compared dogfighting to hunting deer: "They cut their heads off and they go to mount them on the wall. And they are animals as well. I don't see a big difference in the situation.

Wait, did say that we loves us some TO? That was when he was saying things like "Get your popcorn ready with a little extra butter" and "Like my boy tells me; if it looks like a rat and smells like a rat, by golly, it is a rat." Hold up, so you mean to tell us that Owens is actually a lunatic?! Oh, snap!

When I say it's a cultural situation, I'm not trying to bring a racial barrier into it. If anyone wants to dig that up, I will dispel that. I don't condone Michael Vick's actions with the dogfighting. I've been exposed to it and it's something that's very unfortunate for Mike. I think he'll learn from this situation and move on from it.

Hmm, sounds like someone else has just joined the Clinton Portis School of Public Speaking.

And in other news from planet Owens, it sounds like TO and Donovan McNabb have finally moved on which means that we can all happily move on from a relationship that officially ended years ago.

"I did what I had to do when I saw Donovan. I apologized," Owens said before Dallas practiced Wednesday. "Donovan is a good guy. I missed him. I missed the times that we had. Donovan is a good guy. He is a good friend. There were some things that happened. I do regret some of the things that happened. If I could go back and change some of the things then I would."

McNabb said the two could've had "something special" if they played together longer than 1½ years.

"Unfortunately, it didn't go in that direction," McNabb said. "We've talked it out and communicated when we had the opportunity to, and kind of put it behind us. That's the past, and we're just focusing on what we have to do with our given teams right now.

Thank goodness for that. Now if we could just get Britney and Justin to kiss and make up we'd be set.

What is it with sports and big mouths? Chicago Bears D-lineman Tommie Harris has joined Kobe Bryant, Clinton Portis and Billy Donovan on the recent list of guys who are quick to retreat from their actions.

Harris was in Philadelphia last week to attend Donovan McNabb's charity golf tournament when someone stuck a microphone in front of him and effortless got Harris to start blabbering about how desperately he wants McNabb to QB in Chicago; all the while, seemingly forgetting that Rex Grossman is currently serving that role after offensively navigating the Bears to the Super Bowl.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Harris said: "I'd love to have [McNabb] as my quarterback in Chicago . . . Hopefully, he comes here and helps the Chicago Bears win the Super Bowl . . . If he comes to Chicago, we'll definitely win the Super Bowl . . . He's my friend and I would like him to play on my team . . . I'd love him to play for the Bears."

Harris then continued, ending with this: "Hopefully we get Donovan.

But, of course, Tommie was just kidding around and blames the whole thing on Donovan for egging him on.

I will be careful the next time I joke around," Harris told reporters. "Donovan was behind the camera laughing. We were joking around and it escalated to more than what it was. I apologized to the rest of my team. I was very embarrassed with how much it blew up with the media. My team forgave me, so that's all that matters.

Okay, we're not buying the whole "joke" copout on this one, Tommie. But apparently Grossman is because he seemed to think it was all "not that big of a deal." Still, we're really getting sick of the backtracking that is going on in sports today and the lame excuses that these athletes think the public is gullible enough to believe. Give us a freaking break for once; either shut the hell up altogether until you have clearly thought about the possible ramifications of your comments or stick to your statements, if that is how you honestly feel. Quit wasting our time with B.S.; all it does is make you look completely foolish.
