Even though we root for Tiger Woods for every tournament, as soon as Tiger hit the drink on 15, we accepted and were almost happy that Zach Johnson, underdog, was going to win the thing. But then a funny thing happened: Zach Johnson pulled out his Jesus card.

Being Easter, my faith is very important to me. I felt Jesus, I felt my grandfather, my family, everybody. So it was awesome.

Regardless of what happened today, my responsibility was to glorify God. Hopefully I did.

Jesus is totally awesome. Now we know this plays well in a lot of states around the country but athletes need to give it a rest already. Jesus didn't help you win the Masters or the Super Bowl or anything else. Jesus doesn't hate Tiger Woods. Look, you can believe whatever you want to believe, but the Masters is no place for your proselytizing.

Plus, wasn't Jesus already busy considering it was Easter?

So Jesus wanted Tiger Woods to lose? or Justin Rose? or Reteif Goosen? Why does he play favorites? I'm not downgrading Jesus at all. I'm just saying that I'm sick of athletes always saying Jesus made them win. Jesus doesn't care about the Masters.

I think that sport is not always a good means for proselyting; especially in Zach's case where he "missed church on Easter Sunday." However, if sport is a means to boost your faith, I think it's acceptable. I think that Zach's praise to God happened for a reason. Who knows? Maybe God used this occasion as a wake up call to the world. With faith all things are possible. With Zach's faith in Christ, he won. Faith has more to do with your heart that with your game. He did not loose his focus on God and later proved that he did not regret it. He did not deny Jesus, and for this he was blessed. Miracles come to those who believe in them. Let's just hope that he keeps that in mind!

I was okay with Zach Johnson winning the Masters yesterday and though I don't buy into the whole "thanking the lord" thing, I was happy enough for him, UNTIL I read his stupid arrogant comment about "even the giant has to fall sometimes" which he said with particular reference to Tiger Woods.

Johnson didn't so much win the Masters as Tiger blew it, so he has the utter gall to talk about bringing down a giant?? this from a "no name" whose best finish until now was a tie for 9TH at the 2007 World Golf Championships!!!????  Give me a break.

Let Zach Johnson dominate the PGA even for 2 years the way Tiger has and then I'd say he may - may - be entitled to say something like that.  Otherwise I think he should keep his comments to himself.

First of all, well written comment. Were you trying to say that the "jesus comment" was listed as Probable to play today, but is now Questionable? Second, you "can't believe" an opinion, but you can actually believe that a man lives in the sky and controls the universe, golf tourney's in particular. Also, for once I'd like to an athlete to say: " That shot was going in, no doubt. But then, Jesus fucked me."

To follow throughon this idea of Jesus as a sports deity guiding the believers to a win - If a Buhdist is playing in a tournament with a devout Christian, and it is coming down to the last putt, are the Buhda and Jesus duking it out on the  sideleines to see whose putt goes in, or doesn't? Sort of a my deity can beat up your deity kind of thing? Isn't it more insulting to your religion to think that your deity has nothing to do, to think about except your petty , little life? Isn't it just a bit prideful to claim that you , and only you , out of all the com[petitiors had the personal attention of your personal savior that day?
Hey, I don't care what religion a guy professes, just leave it out of your press quptes.
